Tudor Place (Unrelated to Henry VIII)
Done! #24.2 Visit the following places that I’ve never been: Tudor Place. Note: I stole this pic from the internet. The front of the house is currently under construction and the picture I took doesn’t capture how it usually looks.
After I read “Martha Washington: An American Life” last year, I started doing research on Martha and George Washington’s family trees. I...

Expensive Cheese Popovers
Completed #17: Make one new food dish a month: (February edition) Gruyere Popovers
I had a lot of leftover Gruyere after I made the mac n cheese gnocchi and I wasn’t about to waste $10 of cheese. Luckily, I was able to get rid of the rest of it with this recipe.
Check out this gnarly one.
Here’s the recipe.

Ford's Theatre
Crossing this off my list! #24.3 Visit the following places that I’ve never been: Ford’s Theater
I love living near D.C. I’ve lived in the area since I was six and I still have yet to explore so many significant landmarks. For example, neither Kris nor I have ever been to Ford’s Theatre — the location President Lincoln was shot. And not for a lack of trying. The last...

"You Gonna Eat Your Cornbread?"
Finished the second part of #19: Cook a different dish twice a month (February edition) - Honey cornbread with bacon
I used boxed cornbread mix and added cooked bacon. Simple. The flavors are perfect together.

Finger Lickin' Good
Finished #19: Cook a different dish twice a month (February edition): Deep-fried, beer-battered chicken
I bought a deep fryer today. Every item of food that enters this house will be fried. 2012 is the year of type II diabetes. Just kidding.
I just threw in random spices, so there’s no recipe to share.

Sweet Cheesus
Completed #17: Make one new food dish a month (January edition): Crispy, cheese-y, garlic-y gnocchi mac n cheese
I almost cried when I saw this recipe on Pinterest last week, as I have a long obsession with mac n cheese. The best part about this dish? It gets crispy on both sides. I broiled it for a few minutes extra — adding even more crunchiness.

Warm Nuts
“I don’t want to set the world on fire, I just want to keep my nuts warm.” - Ernest Borgnine’s life mantra
It was his 95th birthday yesterday. SERIOUSLY, this guy is 95! There’s something I like about him — an affinity I gained after watching the interview where he admitted how he’s maintained his youthful appearance. He’s just so jovial…...

Washington Monument to Remain Closed Until 2013 →
Well, damn…
I guess 24.8: Visit the top of Washington Monument is going to have to wait until 2013. Bummer.

Funky Floor No More
We inherited the ugliest kitchen/bathroom floors EVER. Yellow and SO ’70s. We’ve gone back and forth on replacing the floors over the years. Was it worth the money? Will this improvement help us sell? Despite the fact that this is actually the dumbest question in history (we’d have to build a diamond-encrusted helipad on our rooftop in order to sell our condo for what we paid...

"And Your Excuse is What?"
A few years ago, Kris and I were at the golf range. I was just learning how to swing. I kept hitting the ball, but it would go about six inches. I was getting hopeless (but secretly kind of happy my small boobs were finally getting in the way of something!).
An older man walked over to us and shared some tips. We proceeded to have a conversation with him. We found out he was in his 80s and had...

Top 10 Tips to Waste Less Food →
As I was rushing to put the finishing touches on the above-mentioned page for work last Friday night, I admit, I was too distracted by impending dinner plans to appreciate its content. By the way, I’m a Web Producer for Share Our Strength — a national nonprofit attempting to end childhood hunger in America. This week though, I took some time to actually read it. It includes great tips...

2012 Goals
Behold, our annual goal list. I laughed for a good few minutes when Kris shared one of his goals. Surprisingly and unintentionally, there are a few of ours that are VERY similar. New this year: we came up with goals for each other. Here they are!
In no particular order…
Lyssa’s Goals:
Start a blog (OH SHIT. I can already cross one off my list.)
Be an extra in a movie/tv show -...

It Happened One Night...
“One’s title, even a title like president, says very little about how well one’s life has been led — and that no matter how much you’ve done, or how successful you’ve been, there’s always more to do, more to learn, more to achieve.” — Pres. Barack Obama
On New Year’s Eve 2009, we decided to come up with goals for the year ahead, not...
